About the meeting

Athletics meetings have a long and successful tradition in Maribor. The International Athletics Meeting Maribor 2024 and the 10th Iztok Ciglarič Memorial in the 1500m run will be the 15th international meeting, and we are pleased that in this year we have joined forces with the Athletics club Štajerska Maribor to organise this event.

Taking it a step further, this year's meeting will be held within the World Athletics Continental Tour – Challenger, offering athletes additional points that are crucial in qualifying for the major competitions such as the Olympic Games, World Championships, and European Championships. Additionally, we are also part of the International Athletics League Telekom Slovenia this year.

The Athletics stadium Poljane is renowned for its excellent conditions for top-level athletics. The well - known »Maribor wind« consistently attracts the best sprinters from Slovenia and the wider region. The athletics track was completely renovated in 2017 and is famous for being the best and fastest in Slovenia. The excellent athletics stadium provides an opportunity for top results in every discipline.

THE IZTOK CIGLARIČ MEMORIAL

The Iztok Ciglarič Memorial discipline in the 1500m run holds special significance in this meeting. In memory of our club's first president, Iztok Ciglarič - one of the founders of the Athletics Club Poljane Maribor -  we organise the 1500m run, which receives a tremendous response from both local and foreign athletes each year.

In 2023, just before the European Youth Olympic Festival (EYOF), the running track was retopped and completely renovated near the 100m stands. We are also proud of our new, modern facility. The covered stands and athletics hall underneath are tremendously beneficial, not only for training but also for organising competitions. We are delighted to offer improved conditions.

As meeting organisers, we strive for continuous improvement. Our goal is to showcase top-level athletics in Maribor, which, as the queen of sport, prides itself on its attractiveness. Through this meeting, we wish to bring athletics closer to young athletes, spectators, and other enthusiasts. We aim to offer all attendees a live top athletics spectacle where they will experience a special atmosphere and sports energy.

The Athletics stadium in Maribor has hosted many familiar faces from European and world athletics in the past. Both male and female athletes appreciate returning to Poljane, and we believe that also in the future, we will witness numerous outstanding performances and achievements from the best Slovenian and foreign athletes

I've always been delighted to participate in the Iztok Ciglarič Memorial, competition is strong, and this was usually the fastest 1500m run of the year in Slovenia. I believe that my meeting record will soon be improved and I cheer for all participants in this year's Memorial to achieve their faster run.

It's always "awesome'' to compete in Maribor, it is close to home, the circle is good and the atmosphere is good. In Maribor, I threw my first European record U23.
